Lufthansa Staff Plan Thursday Strike, Disrupting German Flights
The unions VC and UFO stated that the walkout will last from 00:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. local time (2301–2259 GMT), affecting all flights operated by Lufthansa’s core brand as well as its cargo division, Lufthansa Cargo.
The pilot union VC, representing around 4,800 employees, is demanding higher employer contributions to occupational pensions. Members approved the strike in a ballot held last fall.
Lufthansa management has rejected the demands, citing rising costs and declining profits.
Separately, the UFO cabin crew union is staging a “warning strike” to pressure the company into negotiating collective agreements for Lufthansa’s main operations and its regional subsidiary, Cityline. Union leaders have stated that roughly 800 jobs are at risk under the company’s current corporate strategy.
